Winter Cover Crops

← Back to B.C. Programs

We partner with Delta Farmland and Wildlife Trust to support program delivery and provide financial support to the agricultural community to plant winter cover crops. Seeded in the fall, winter cover crops are grain or grass crops that are planted to keep the soil covered over the winter. They usually follow an annual cash crop.

Winter cover crops have many benefits including improved soil structure and erosion prevention. They are also a tool to lessen the damage caused by wintering waterfowl while improving soil and farm productivity.
